It’s officially the start of summer and what better way to mark it with a host of Athletics, Cricket and Rounders.

Last Sunday a group of Yr4-8 students travelled to a very wet and misty Mount Kelly to take part in the qualifiers for the National Prep Athletics Championships. There were some excellent performances with a 2nd place performance 800m by Jack P. There were 3 stand out performances on the day, Bea Oliver-Stevens won the open Hurdles, Bella P-J won the open high jump, and Bea W won the U11 hurdles in a new course record. All three girls have now qualified for the National Prep Schools’ Athletics Championships in Birmingham on Tuesday 3rd July, congratulations to all three girls and all the other students who competed on Sunday.

Wednesday saw the U13 girls host Mount Kelly at the county ground for a Rounders and Cricket festival. For a lot of the girls this was their first opportunity to play cricket and there were some excellent performances with bat and ball. The training game was a perfect opportunity for the girls to learn some new skills and enjoy what is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK. The girls also had a chance to play Mount Kelly in a rounders match, the U13A team lost by just ½ a rounder in a strong team performance which included some excellent fielding. Batting player of the match was awarded to Ruth B and fielding player of the match to Georgina H. The U13B team drew in another brilliant display of fielding, player of the match was awarded to Evie A and Rowan A.

On Thursday the U8 and U9 cricket teams travelled to Stover, it was an excellent afternoon under sunny skies and all 3 teams performed brilliantly. The U8 and U9 Rounders teams hosted Stover at the county ground and in 2 exciting games came out with two high scoring draws. Again it was another lovely afternoon with some fabulous fielding and batting. Player of the matches were awarded to Gen S-J and Rosalila G for batting and Anna B and Phoebe G for fielding.

Have a super sporting weekend and enjoy the sun, I’m boldly predicting a victory for England in the Rugby, Cricket and Football!

Mr James Kelly
