April showers have put pay to some fixtures this week (or May showers as they have become) but we have had some sport take place!

Let’s start with the fixtures which took place, the U10 and U11 girls travelled to Mount Kelly on Wednesday to take part in a rounders fixture. The teams were a mix of A and Bs with ECS not losing out in a high scoring contest. Player of the match was awarded to Bea W, for her outstanding batting display.

Meanwhile the U12 and U13 girls hosted St Peter’s on the all-weather pitch at Exeter University (sadly the county ground was unplayable). The U12 team displayed great team work and discipline to overcome St Peter’s, batting player of the match was awarded to Evie L, with Olivia T being awarded fielder of the match. The U13A team put in a strong batting performance but a few fielding errors, they eventually lost out to St Peters. Maddy C was fielder of the match and Thomma C was batter of the match. The U13B took part in a closely fought match where again a couple of errors in the field proved costly in the outcome of the match. Lottie F was awarded fielder of the match with Esme D-G being awarded batter of the match.

On Thursday, the U8 and U9s girls’ rounders teams hosted West Buckland at the Country ground, the U9As played some excellent rounders and lost out by a couple of rounders. Gen S-J bowled excellently and there were some super performances in the field. The U8/9 team took part in a training match against West Buckland, the teams were mixed giving the chance for the girls to mix with each other, there were again some excellent batting, bowling and fielding performances with plenty of rounders being scored. Ultimately Team Tiger came out on top against Team Rabbit!

Also on Thursday, the U8 and U9 Boys’ cricket teams hosted Mount Kelly at the Country ground, in a hive of activity on the county ground, 3 matches took place with lots of runs and wickets in all 3 matches. For the year 3 boys, this was their first opportunity to take part in a match situation and they performed brilliantly under the circumstances. The U9A and U9B teams both learnt a lot form their matches, the fielding display from teams was particularly impressive!

Unfortunately the weather caused the cancellation of the U12 and U13 cricket against Exeter School last Saturday and on Wednesday when the boys were due to travel to Mount Kelly, hopefully we will have more luck when the U13A and B side travel to St Peter’s next Wednesday. The U10 and U11 cricket against Mount Kelly was also sadly rained off, the boys were instead able to get some bowling and batting practice in at the indoor nets at Exeter University.

Enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend and hopefully the shortened week will give the weather less chance to disrupt our sporting plans!

Mr James Kelly
