A busy week saw training sessions, a coaching afternoon with Mount Kelly and fixtures on the cricket and rounders field.

On Wednesday the U12 and U13 boys hosted Mount Kelly U13s for a coaching session at Exeter Cricket Club. The boys took part in a trio of activities including some fielding drills, working on batting technique in the nets, and bowling on the wicket (the first chance most boys had had to do that this season). All boys worked extremely hard and have hopefully gained some valuable experience and practice ahead of next week’s game at none other than Mount Kelly! Unfortunately the U10 and U11s boys fixture due to take place at Sidmouth CC against St John’s fell foul to the weather, this did give Mr Haywood, Mr Bartlett and Mr Farrow a chance to have a fielding session with the boys which should stand them in good stead for the season ahead.

Wednesday also saw the U10 and U11A and B Rounders teams travel to Blundell’s to take part in a triangular tournament with Blundells and Taunton School. The U10 side started showed some encouraging signs and scored some good Rounders in 2 hard fought games. The U11As played in windy conditions which affected all sides taking part, the girls lost out in both games by very narrow margins and can take plenty of positives from their performance. Natalie P and Alice J starred for the U11B side who after a shaky start in the first match displayed a much improved fielding display, with some excellent stops in the field.

Thursday saw the U8 and U9s host St Johns A and B teams in a couple of training matches at Exeter CC. The training games gave the opportunity for all students to take part and have some coaching at the same time, Phoebe Gand Rosie E were awarded players of the match for their performances. The boys also hosted St John’s in a couple of cricket training matches. This gave students the chance to put into practice the batting, bowling and fielding skills they have been working on since Easter.

Tomorrow (weather dependent!) the U12 and U13 boys make the short trip to Exeter School to play their first competitive fixture of the season, we wish them luck and I look forward to providing you with the details next Friday!

Mr James Kelly
