The first full week back has been a little testing for outdoor sports. The weather has not been kind to us, however, the good news is that our close skills in hockey are progressing nicely because indoor hockey is such a fast game where the boys have needed to show great control. Mr Pennington and I have been really impressed with the Year 3 and 4 boys this week, their attitude in Games lessons has been amazing. I know Ms Salter and Mr Kelly have been equally impressed with the Year 3 and 4 girls as they dusted off the cobwebs in netball at Exeter University courts and played great hosts to St Christopher’s on Thursday afternoon. A fun filled training session followed by mini matches was a real hit with all the girls, a great way to learn and share experiences with another school.
On Wednesday all teams, this included every pupil from year 5 to 8, played in a block fixture against Mount Kelly. The long drive didn’t stop the pupils from starting with real intent. The senior girls led the way with Bea W in Year 8 showing real class and inspiring her team to challenge every ball, a brilliant display of netball and a very exciting match. The year 7 girls approached their game with exactly the same attitude and special mention to Daisy B-D who has never played netball before and showed great ability in her first ever match, well done. The Year 5 and 6 girls played in back to back matches and did extremely well, Gen SJ and Jemima S leading the way for Year 5 and Millie C and Jasmin KN showing real strength for Year 6.
The senior boys fought hard against Mount Kelly and although both girls and boys were missing some strong personnel due to Exeter School exams, it didn’t stop them from working hard for each other and making a great start to the season. James MC had an excellent afternoon in goal and for the Year 5 and 6 boys it was Edward K who was the rock at the back for his team.
In PE we have been looking at individual hand-eye coordination and introducing ball skills. The scholarship group have experienced their first HIIT work out, courtesy of Mr Joe Wicks, a few sore legs the next day, including myself!
Looking forward to our fixtures next week where we have our senior girls and Year 5 and 6 boys in action.
