Konnichiwaこんにちは

Year 4 enjoyed another talk celebrating our cultural diversity at ECS.

This time, we were taken to Japan for a lesson given by Kiah N and Hugo H. They worked together to teach us about the geography of Japan, where their families live and what Japanese money looks like. We also learned about important topics such as food, popular culture and towns and cities.

Their powerpoint helped us to understand more by using key words, pictures and hyperlinks. We also loved seeing the Japanese items they had brought in to show, and eating the delicious sweets and biscuits! Then we had a Japanese language lesson and we learned to say ‘hello’, ‘thank you’, ‘goodbye’ and ‘my name is ______’. We had to get our pronunciation just right! Can you say these?

Hello = こんにちは konnichiwa (koh-nee-chee-wah)

Thank you = どうもありがとう domo arigatou (doh-moh ah-ree-gah-toh)

Thank you very much to Hugo and Kiah for such an interesting talk and helping us to learn more about another culture.
