Headmaster’s Blog

What a thing a snow day is! Pushing the button to declare a snow day and thereby close the School is one of those (admittedly fairly low-level) leadership conundrums (conundra?) whereby one delights a large chunk of the community whilst simultaneously causing frustration to a good handful of others. Having written to the ECS community […]

Year 1B Scientists of the Future!

Testing the properties of materials: How can I find out if a material is transparent, absorbent, bendy or waterproof?  1B worked independently to design their own experiments, choosing objects from the classroom and considering how to test them.  They recorded their findings on results tables then discussed how they could have improved their experiments.  A fantastic learning experience! Nursery Open Morning

claire-tamblyn-staff

It was fantastic to see 18 prospective families at last Saturday’s Nursery Open Day “Spring Explorers”.  The sun was shining brightly and the children were soon busily occupied in the many and varied activities that had been organised for them. Enormous thanks to Mrs Oelmann, Mrs Holder and Miss Rhodes for providing such a good […]

ECS Equestrian

Connie was busy this half term preparing her pony “Sunny” for the new season of competitions. The work which is put in at home is especially important with a young pony in order to prepare them for competing in a busy and exciting setting. Exposure to many different types of fences is also worthwhile. Connie […]

Headmaster’s Blog

The abysmal performance of the Headmaster’s table at yesterday’s terrific FECS Quiz Night has given me good cause to reflect on the importance of ‘teacher failure’.  Two Featherstones, one Head of Pre-Prep, a Meteorologist, one Assistant Head Academic, and an EYFS/KS1 specialist managed between them to avoid last place by one point, and I understand […]

Worship at Hall House

Worship in Hall House This week we have been learning about when Jesus first met some of his disciples, and they decided that they wanted to follow him. We watched a story taken from chapter 5 of the Gospel of Luke, where  Simon Peter’s speaks of his fear that he wasn’t good enough to be Jesus friend. Jesus […]

Healthier Snacks in Pre-Prep

We are now offering a healthier “little tea” in Hall House After School Care. We are now having a selection of the following items for tea: Vegetable Muffins, Cheese and Pickle Muffins, Cheese straws and marmite straws ( all homemade by Leigh and his team in the kitchen). We also have bread sticks and oatcakes […]

British Polar Explorer comes to ECS!

Years 1 – 8 enjoyed an inspirational assembly from the explorer Ann Daniels, a member of the first team of British women to travel by skis to both the North and the South poles. Year 2 were also lucky enough to have a further workshop with Ann, where they got to look closely at her […]

Year 4 French Fashion!

Year 4 were treated to a French Fashion Show as a finale to their topic ‘Les Vêtements’.  They brough in an array of brightly coloured clothes and dressed Elizabeth and Harry up, taking it in turns to describe what they were wearing in French. C’était très amusant – bravo! Mme Kate Clayton French Teacher
