On Sunday, 22 students travelled to Taunton to take part in the King’s College Annual Prep Athletics Event.

Sunday was the first chance of the term for students to get out onto the athletics track to run, jump and throw their way through the afternoon. Under blue skies and bright sunshine there were some fantastic performances by ECS students in a thrilling afternoon of action. Bella P-J threw over 1m further than the rest of the field to win the U13 girls Shot, made even more impressive by the fact she had competed in and won the Shot Devon Championship earlier in the day. Jack P was edged into 2nd place in the Boys U12 600m in a race that was run at a blistering pace, and Georgina H won the Biathlon (swim and run) with a great performance in the pool.

The highlight of the day however came in the Girls U12 50m shuttle relay final, having qualified in 3rd place for the final and after a few coaching points from Mrs Ross and Mr Kelly the girls were full of confidence going into the race. Bea W got the team off to a strong start and the girls were leading through the first couple of change overs with Bella B and Hannah G running well in the middle of the race. Emily J was the last to go with ECS and 2 other schools neck and neck, Emily produced a brilliant run and despite the despairing lunge for the line by the other runners Emily held on for an excellent race win for ECS.

A huge well done to all those who competed on Sunday, every single student was a credit to ECS and put in some brilliant performances, also thank you to the King’s College for hosting an excellent afternoon of Athletics.

Mr James Kelly
