Exeter Cathedral School is proud to be a member of the BSA (Boarding Schools’ Association) and to be the only school in Exeter to offer boarding.
Our small and cosy Boarding House, named Eyre House, is run by our Head of Boarding, Mr Cédric Baurance and supported by our Boarding House Matron, Mrs Pamela Baxendale, and other resident members of staff.
Eyre House is situated on the eastern side of our main school site and can accommodate up to 40 boarders, with girls and boys on separate corridors. With its comfortable dormitories, Common Room, Prep Room, Games Room, Bistro for making snacks and drinks, and eight pianos, it is no wonder that our pupils say that the Boarding House is a fun and friendly place to be.
Families may choose between full, weekly- and flexi-boarding. Eyre House is a happy and relaxed mix of ages (7 to 13), boys and girls, regular and flexi-boarders, and a number of our boarders are Cathedral Choristers.
Every year, boarders elect pupils to the Boarding Council, with regular Boarding Council meetings taking place alongside the Head of Boarding to discuss ways to improve the Boarding House and the lives of its residents. All boarders are encouraged to share their ideas with members of the Council, who will then discuss them during the next meeting.
The boarders and the boarding staff are a family in which everyone feels welcome, included and appreciated. Boarders are kind and caring towards one another, creating an environment that can be summed up in their own words as their ‘home away from home’.
