Headmaster’s Blog

This week’s blog is from the Friends of Exeter Cathedral School (FECS) team.

We often hear parents ask the question ‘What is FECS?’ so we thought we’d take this opportunity to say who we are and what we do for the children and families at ECS. We are a group of parents and teachers who meet twice a term to think of ways to enrich your children’s experiences within the school. Fun activities, including discos, movie nights, Father Christmas visits and Easter Egg hunts, are all organised and funded by FECS with your support. We also fund icing-on-the-cake items to enhance your children’s learning, including mini Ipads for Games, science and cookery equipment and library books, and help fund bigger projects such as refurbishing the Science Lab, Hall House Library and Chantry playground and investing in eco-friendly furniture for classrooms.

Our Committee members include a Chair, Cleofe Board, Vice-Chairs, Nicky Dunn and Louise Lefebvre, a Treasurer, Sabine Tuckett, and a Secretary, Emma Jackson. We are supported by other committee members and staff. We are always looking for new Committee members but we would like to encourage you all to get involved, whether as a parent volunteer to help organise and host an event or just to offer support and suggest ideas for fundraising. We’d love to hear from you if you have a little time to spare – it doesn’t need to be very much. This year we are supporting an eco-friendly theme for our big ticket items. We are considering the possibility of a bike shed at the Chantry to encourage more children to cycle to school and we have just agreed to fund eco-friendly furniture for Hall House. Do you have ideas? – We would love to hear them!

To kick off this year’s events we are holding a Swimathon tomorrow – it’s not too late to take part. We run it every other year and the children love taking part, whether they can swim or not! Register here: www.pta-events.co.uk/fecs

In a few weeks look out for our Quiz Night on Friday 6 February in Kalendar Hall – start organising your teams now and tickets can be purchased from the link above. Later in the spring we are hoping to run a family-friendly social event – look out for posters around the School, Facebook and Portal updates and information from your class reps and come along to have fun and be part of the great community spirit of ECS.
